Central Concrete: Leading the Way in Transparency

Not only has Central Concrete led the way in developing Low-CO2 mixes, but it has taken a leadership role within key organizations to set in motion more sustainable practices and products within the built environment that will result in measurable outcomes. Central Concrete is a founding member of the Carbon Leadership Forum (CLF), a group dedicated to devising standards that will limit the carbon footprint of building products and systems. As a result of the CLF’s work, in 2013, Central became the first ready mix supplier in North America to adopt Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), recognized in LEEDv4.

In October 2013, Central Concrete also became a founding partner of the Building Health Initiative — a group dedicated to elevating green building as a public health benefit and accelerating the development of transparency standards in building materials through Health Product Decarations (HPDs)

EPDs provide independently, science-based information — that is independently verified by a third party — relative to the product’s environmental impacts.

Customers can easily compare products based on their environmental attributes using data that is objective, neutral and transparent.
